GRAFFITI
BUSTERS BRIGADE
The
Graffiti Busters Brigade is a major initiative of the
PAV Group.
There are currently several graffiti removal schemes
operating in Western Australia. Local governments undertake
to remove graffiti from council facilities and the state
government likewise removes graffiti from state government
assets and facilities. There is however, no uniform
initiative for the removal of graffiti from businesses
and residences. Even if local or State Governments were
willing to assist in this area there is the legal problem
of obtaining permission from property owners before
entering their property to remove graffiti.
A new Graffiti Busters Brigade operated by PAV will
remove graffiti from local businesses and residences,
ideally within 24 hours of it occurring. In order to
have graffiti removed from you home or business you
will be required to become a member of PAV.
Members of PAV will be required to sign a waiver permitting
the brigade to clean off graffiti on their property.
In the event of graffiti accruing they will then be
able to phone a hotline and report it. The brigade will
then remove it. PAV will trial the program in the Brighton
Estate (the suburb of Butler) in the first instance,
with the aim of expanding it gradually to include the
whole of the Wanneroo local government area and hopefully
beyond that further into the future.
The State Government has provided a grant of $5,000
to train local volunteers who will run the Graffiti
Busters Brigade. The brigade has been operating since September 2006.
